ISLT 9410: International Libraries in Context: St. Lucia
This study-abroad course explores issues impacting librarianship in St. Lucia and the Eastern Caribbean, with a special focus on literacy and reading for children and teens. The course begins with a study of libraries in the Eastern Caribbean and other developing countries, followed by a focus on literacy and designing activities to promote reading. The class will be working on-site with a school in Laborie, St. Lucia to develop materials and create youth-services programming in a low-resource situation. Finally there will be some reflection on how to apply this knowledge to the United States context.
